So Very: The Outsiders; Heathers Reboot; Goop Translations--New Vitamins

Hi,
I know I usually send this out on Thursdays, but I have had a sick kid at home for 6 days so my life is a little backwards right now and better late than never.

This week, I wrote an article for the New York Times about the lasting fandom of S.E. Hinton's "The Outsiders." I traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the story and interviewed her in the house where the movie, "The Outsiders," was made. I was a huge fan of "The Outsiders" and all of S.E. Hinton's books - "Tex"; "That Was Then, This Is Now"; "Rumble Fish". She basically shaped my childhood.
The first thing I said when I walked into the The Outsiders House was "Where's the bathroom? I need to see where Sodapop got out of the tub naked." I was 13. Rob Lowe was 18 in that movie. My pubescent youth began at this moment, people.

Ironically enough, the guy who is turning the house into a museum, Danny O'Connor--who is also known as Danny Boy, as in the song, "Jump Around," as in House of Pain (yes, I know, crazy!)--was looking for that tub the day I was there.
The other day, friends asked me if I was BFF's with S.E. Hinton now after interviewing her. She was the nicest person, a self-described introvert. Quiet, sweet. Beautiful blue eyes. She answers fan questions on Twitter all day long. But she was not about to be my best friend. Here's a totally fake exaggerated version of our exchange when I met her.

Me: I AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN.
S.E. Hinton: I hear that a lot.
Me: My whole childhood basically revolved around your books... and V.C. Andrews.
S.E. Hinton: Fantastic. Wait, V.C. Andrews?
Me: If I told my teenage self that I was going to be meeting you right now, I wouldn't believe it.
S.E. Hinton: Great.
Me: Do you think we'll be best friends since I love you so much?
S.E. Hinton: I have a lot of friends.
Me: But I'm not going to be one of them, am I?
S.E. Hinton: Do you understand that I wrote The Outsiders? That people literally say this to me on a daily basis and have said this to me for 50 years since I was 18 years old.
Me: But we can drive around Oklahoma all day and talk about The Outsiders, wouldn't that be fun?
S.E. Hinton: That sounds horrible.
Me: Did I tell you that my son is reading your book and we're reading it together and it's so exciting? Can you give him a shout out?
S.E. Sure.
Me: Can we take a selfie?
S.E. Hinton: No.
There's a fundraiser for The Outsiders House on May 6 in Tulsa. A lot of Outsiders folks will be there including Ralph Macchio (Johnny), C Thomas Howell (Ponyboy), and Deborah Foreman who played Julie in Valley Girl. (Emily Lapkin I'm talking to YOU.)
Heathers News
TV Land is making a Fargo-like TV show about Heathers in which they deal with different kids in different schools. It's an hour-long series. They're completely revamping the mean girls. I approve of this Heathers reboot and can't wait to see it.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
TV Land's take, set in the present day, features a new set of popular-yet-evil Heathers — only this time the outcasts have become high school royalty. Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk) will be portrayed by Jasmine Mathews; Heather Duke (Shannen Doherty in the film) is a male who identifies as gender-queer whose real name is Heath (Brendan Scannell); and Heather Chandler (originally Kim Walker) has a body like Martha Dumptruck and will be played by Melanie Field. Newcomers James Scully and Grace Victoria Cox star as J.D. and Veronica, respectively. Original Heathers star Doherty guest-stars in the pilot, which was directed by Leslye Headland and written by Micallef.
Goop Translations: New Vitamins
Goop:
When you wake up in the morning, do you already feel tired, even if you got a fair amount of sleep? Do you feel tired all day?
Do you find that you turn to caffeine, sugar, and salt to help you get through the day?
Does your mind race, even when you feel tired?
Are you feeling constipated, or having excessive gas or bloating?
Do you feel like it’s become a struggle to lose weight, even though your routine is otherwise healthy?
Are you feeling depressed, or struggling to remember things or focus?
Do you feel like you get every cold that goes around?
Do you have a diminished sex drive?
Does your body ache, specifically in your neck and shoulders?
Goop Translation:
The real question is: Do you do anything at all?
I already know what you're thinking. How are you going to afford $80 a month for vitamins? But this is an investment in your life so stop being so selfish.
You're exhausted because you probably don't work out. You don't eat well. You hardly sleep. You don't do yoga. You don't even take an anti-depressant! Ugh. That's why you're so EFFING TIRED. The least you can do is shell out $80 a month for my vitamin program, because I made this for YOU, you lazy fuck. Now, you can sit in bed all day and complain about the state of the world while watching CNN. But at least you're taking my vitamins.
Thanks for reading!
